And the Things of Earth ..... Part II
Call it frustration, call it concern, call it symptomatic of our culture, but whatever you deem it, our current political environment can be lethal to you and to our nation, or it can be seen from a spiritual perspective as something much greater. The issue is as you watch the endless campaigning during the primary process and realize that we will have another seven monthsof non-stop posturing and pontificating by the front runners from both political parties. Now far from wanting to give any kind of thoughts or endorsements on individual candidates, let's look instead of what the process is telling us as Christ followers.
First, it says that we live in a country where people are desperate for answers. We have more than 300 million people in the U.S. and the problem that we have is that many of those are looking for a man or woman to be the answer for our world, rather than looking at the creator as being the answer. Think of it to this point candidates in both parties have spent more than a half of a billion dollars and the general election race hasn't started as of yet. What is it that America is looking for? Some would say change, but I am convinced that what they are really saying is, they are looking for hope in whatever package it comes in. That is exactly why the change message resonates, even though the message of change has no tangible details to go along with it, people are captivated by the I am not sure that you and I can get a full scope on just how far our nation has drifted from the one source and the one course that can save it and give it lasting hope. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. Those words were given to the nation of Israel centuries before they had been taken over by foreign nations. God is the changeless one, who is eternal and who knows the end from the beginning. That is why we need to see what is happening around us in the political realm as a cry for help. Because our nation has lost it's moorings and has for some time been looking to everything and everyone that would fill the hope that they are longing for. The One who does not change is calling our nation like he has done over the centuries with other nations to come back home. Is it possible that the change people are looking for is the same relationship that God is longing for us to have with Him? Would you ask God to allow our hearts to be open and sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit that is wanting us to see our nations cry for change as a deep seated cry for the Lord. We who are Christ followers are called to be watchmen who understand the times and the seasons, the things that are happening around us all. Lord open our eyes to see what is happening around us and allow us to point people not to a human answer in the form of a national candidate, but to the Divine God who is not looking for an office, but is the answer to lasting and eternal change. |
